New Extension to Period Property

This 18th Century stone built cottage located in the North Oxfordshire village of Fritwell has a wealth of period characteristics and boasts attractive cottage gardens leading to an apple orchard and paddock at the rear.

However, the property lacked a downstairs cloakroom and utility space, and the existing kitchen was dark with deep set windows – the old stone walls being almost 2 feet thick!

Staples Building was commissioned to build a single storey extension. Constructed in Cotswold stone and using materials and techniques sympathetic to the existing style and date of the property, the new space now houses a good sized cloakroom/WC and generous utility room.

To tackle the kitchen area, the far end wall was knocked through to access the existing conservatory. This created an open plan feel and brought in much needed natural light from the garden. The structural changes together with a newly installed lighting system have created a brighter, airier living space. Finally the old kitchen units were stripped out and a new contemporary kitchen installed. Attractive stone coloured floor tiles and a lick of paint complete the transformation.
